BackType

In lieu of recent and upcoming changes to BackType, we’ve decided to retire user profiles – the claiming and user organization of blog comments. It’s a feature we love, but unfortunately does not have a place in the new product. It follows that tweeting comments that make it to your profile will also stop. User profiles will be removed on Wednesday, April 21; we apologize for any inconvenience.

Note: comments will still be aggregated by BackType and accessible through our website; however, users will no longer have the ability to explicitly claim any comments

Today, we launched BackType Connect, a feature that shows you all the conversations surrounding a particular article or post. It connects the "conversational graph," including tweets from Twitter and comments from blogs, FriendFeed, Digg, Reddit and other social media. Bloggers and other publishers can track where people are engaging with their content, and readers can discover active conversations about the topics that interest them.

Since our launch in late August, the most requested feature has been the ability to follow comments by post. Today, we’re happy to announce BackType Subscriptions which lets you do exactly that. You give us a URL and we’ll let you know when someone comments via e-mail (immediately or in daily or weekly digests) and RSS.

Using BackType, you can now follow comments by:

1. Author
2. Search Term
3. Post

BackType Alerts lets you follow specific search terms and delivers results to your inbox, feed reader and Dashboard. E-mail updates are available as they happen, or in daily or weekly digests. Use alerts to:
