05/11 BackTweets Advanced Search

Over the weekend, we released advanced search for BackTweets, the service we created a couple of months ago that lets you search for links on Twitter. Advanced search filters have been requested many times and we’ll continue to improve them as we find time. Currently, you’re able to filter link searches by date, as well as the user that tweeted and the user the tweet was in response to. These parameters are also available in the BackTweets API. And now there’s a tweet counter at the bottom of the search results so you can see exactly how many times the URL you searched for has been tweeted.

Are there any features you’d like to see in BackTweets? Please let us know in the comments!

03/28 Auto Subscribe to Conversations

We’ve recently introduced a highly requested feature that allows you to auto-subscribe to conversations using BackType Subscriptions. When you enable the auto-subscribe option in your Account Settings, all conversations you participate in will automatically add to your Subscriptions. That means you’ll receive e-mail updates whenever someone follows up with a comment.

Let us know what you think. More updates coming next week :)

03/06 Announcing BackType Connect

Today, we launched BackType Connect, a feature that shows you all the conversations surrounding a particular article or post. It connects the "conversational graph," including tweets from Twitter and comments from blogs, FriendFeed, Digg, Reddit and other social media. Bloggers and other publishers can track where people are engaging with their content, and readers can discover active conversations about the topics that interest them.

02/25 Now Supporting The New York Times & Yedda

We now fully support all of The New York Times properties. However, since they do not allow you to publish your comments with a link to your website, you won’t be able to claim comments you leave on NYT and their blogs. Instead, these comments will be available only through search, alerts and subscriptions.

You will, however, be able to claim comments from Yedda, another addition to our support for Q&A services. If you’re a Yedda user, visit the Claim Comments page and enter your username. We’ve also added a service called New Mogul – it’s a business news aggregation site.

If there’s a service or property you want BackType to support, let us know.

02/12 Blogroll Widget

Fred Wilson called out for a blogroll today and Arjun Ram commented, saying

Fred, You already sort of have it. If you ever commented on a blog entry that you have it at http://www.backtype.com/fredwilson

With 5000+ comments you do have a blogroll, now if you can get backtype to make it available as a widget than u have it!

It wont be comprehensive but it will have quality!

We followed Arjun’s suggestion and made a blogroll widget, which is now available for users on the widgets page. It orders blogs based on the number of comments you’ve published on them. It looks similar to our previous widgets (one of which is featured right here on this blog), and as usual, it’s fully customizable using CSS.

Have an idea for another widget? Let us know!

02/10 Now Supporting FriendFeed

One of the services we’ve always been interested in supporting is FriendFeed. Today, FriendFeed comments are live on BackType. To claim your comments, just visit the claim comments page and submit your FriendFeed username. This is also great news for people using Search and BackType Alerts – you’ll start receiving timely notifications of activity on FriendFeed that’s of interest to you.

12/30 Facebook Connect Comments

We’ve started to integrate with Facebook Connect so you have the option to:

  1. Claim comments published using Facebook Connect authentication
  2. Post comments to your Facebook Newsfeed

Today, you can start claiming your comments. We’ll update you on the newsfeed soon.

12/22 Subscriptions Bookmarklet

To make adding subscriptions easier, we’ve created a little bookmarklet that you can find on your subscriptions page when logged in. You can subscribe to any post’s comments with the Add Subscription bookmarklet. When subscribing, make sure you use the bookmarklet on the post’s permalink page, not the blog’s index; the post URL should be used when adding subscriptions manually.
